HOME WITH A HEART

Tonight I went to "Home with a Heart" with some of my family from "Disciples Mission." We go there one Thursday a month to bring dinner and a message to these men who are suffering from addiction. Home with a Heart is a biblical based program which lasts for 6 weeks.

Please understand that we go there to minister to them and every time we leave we feel that they ministered to us in many more ways than they ever know.

Tonight I met a man named, Robert. He was born and raised in Monroe, North Carolina, and after many years of fighting alcoholism he finally sought help. He went through a detox program in Monroe and then his family doctor found "Home with a Heart" for him. Before he knew it he was on a bus and headed for Liberty, South Carolina. He said tonight if he were to leave there he would be instantly lost. You see Robert has no one here that he can rely on. He does does not have the wonderful support of a family or a church body or even a circle of friends that he can depend on. The interesting thing is that Robert does know the LORD and with HIM, he is not lost at all. You see Robert may be lost geographically but he knows within his heart the the LORD will get him home.

Robert was blown away that people would spend their time cooking, baking and preparing dinner for these men who are total strangers and then to boot feed them spiritually. After we ate, I offered to clear his plate and with his he was left speechless. He felt as if he was an incredible sinner and he did not deserve this love. On the other hand I felt totally honored to be able to cook and prepare and clean up after him tonight. You see, I think that Robert is an amazingly brave man for fighting his addiction and going out on a ledge to a place he has never been before to get on the right road.

So even though we went tonight to minister to these men...the truth is they ministered to ME more than they will ever know. Yes, they were strangers to me tonight but we are all children of GOD and in that sense Robert is my brother and I was glad to be there tonight to encourage him , eat dinner with him and worship with him.

Our GOD is so very awesome. I am so thankful and gracious that HE loves me as much as HE does because I am a huge sinner, just like Robert.

Thank you Lord for loving us and giving me the opportunity I had this evening!
